European Darts Open Saturday afternoon Round-Up | Wessel Nijman thumps Bradley Brooks, Jan Schmidt continues dream run with De Decker conquered

Wessel Nijman, Chris Dobey and Luke Woodhouse were all in top ties this afternoon as the kings of the ProTour continue their run-in at the European Darts Open. But only two out of the three moved through.

Nijman in particular was an easy winner as he thrashed Bradley Brooks to make the final day. He averaged 94 and despite only hitting a sole 180, he was successful in every phase as he booked his spot in the final day.

He started off with a break on 104 with Brooks sat on 40 after missing 78. He responded with double nine to make it 3-0. He broke again on double nine after both missed ton plus checkouts. Nijman first with 113, Brooks then with 112. But Brooks was staring down the barrel when Nijman produced 68 for 5-0.

He then mopped up the match with a 110 checkout. Another ProTour king to move through was in fact Luke Woodhouse who like Nijman has also enjoyed success on the European Tour this season and again it was a 6-0 win in favour of 'Woody'.

Facing Dragutin Horvat, he averaged 91 and didn't particularly need to be a lot better as his opponent only hit 75 in response. He hit 180 to leave 55 and then broke for leg one. He then held with 51 for great combination finishing.

3-0 was also the way of Woodhouse who broke again on double four and then held on the same target for 4-0. Woodhouse broke again on double 10 for 5-0 and then concluded the tie with a 110 checkout.

Albeit Chris Dobey on the other hand was well beaten again by Dirk van Duijvenbode who seems to have his number as of late.

Van Duijvenbode went 2-0 up breaking with a 101 checkout and then double five. Albeit Dobey hit back breaking for 2-2 on double 20 only to not win another leg as Van Duijvenbode hit two 180's in a leg then double 15 eventually for 3-2 before then holding with 48 for 4-2.

He broke once more for double 20 for a 5-2 lead and then closed the deal with that break proving vital.

Jan Schmidt was also the big winner. After his shock win yesterday, he backed it up by seeing off Mike de Decker. Schmidt went 2-0 up hitting double 20.

Schmidt lost throw but he returned to break late after making it 4-3 with a 68 checkout, he returned for 5-3 on double eight after missed darts aplenty from De Decker. Double eight from De Decker saw him break back but in the decider, he hit a 52 checkout to rubber stamp a big win.

Other results included more abject performances from Danny Noppert who by now has to be a bit of a concern. He lost out 6-3 to Sebastian Bialecki and although he averaged 98 like Bialecki, the Pole went 4-1 up quite easily with great combination finishing and although Noppert semi had a surge albeit only just holding throw a few times, it was very much lights out as Bialecki sealed the win with a 100 checkout then double 16 to win 6-3.

Damon Heta also saw off Robert Owen 6-4, while Jermaine Wattimena thumped recent in-form man Kim Huybrechts 6-0 in a bit of a shock result. Finally home hero Max Hopp also goes home losing out to Krzysztof Ratajski 6-3 which ended the session.
