Luke Humphries won the World Grand Prix last Sunday by defeating former world champion Gerwyn Price 5-2 in sets in the final.
With this achievement, "Cool Hand Luke" follows in the footsteps of
Dimitri van den Bergh and
Michael Smith. Indeed, these two players are the only other players who managed to win a major title after becoming youth world champions at the PDC in their early years.
Smith became youth world champion at the PDC in 2013 and captured his first major title at the Grand Slam of Darts last year. Earlier this year, "Bullyboy" also became world champion among professionals.
Van den Bergh even became youth world champion twice. He won this title in 2017 and 2018. 'The Dreammaker' then managed to win the World Matchplay in 2020, which is still his only major title.
