Luke Humphries is into his third major ranking final in the space of seven weeks continuing his incredible hot streak and he is one win away from sealing a third major after winning the World Grand Prix and Grand Slam of Darts. He would add the
Players Championship Finals to his collection.
By doing so, he defeated Ryan Joyce in a demolition job 11-3 with a 106.2 average and 50% on the doubles. What awaits? A showdown with Michael van Gerwen who himself has been narked about Humphries being portrayed as the best in the world right now.
Joyce though led 2-1 early on showing the amount of legs Humphries won on repeat. He flipped it around to lead 3-2 with a 100.4 average as 'Cool Hand Luke' got going.
He produced an incredible 146 checkout to truly stamp his authority on the clash and make it 4-2 before coasting further clear at 6-2 with a first 180 and 83 checkout.
A third 180 followed as well as a 124 checkout to go 8-2 up with a 105.2 average and 53% on the doubles. Joyce fired back with a 100 checkout to stop the rot and trail 9-3.
But it was a mere consolation as an 11-darter saw Humphries go one away as he put the nail in the coffin of Joyce's campaign and went on to seal his spot in the championship match. Magnificent from Humphries.
