Luke Littler is showing literally zero signs of letting up and as other top names fail and falter, 'The Nuke' produces again with an obscene 112.73 average whitewashing
Rob Cross 6-0 at the
Players Championship Finals.
Littler was playing last year in the World Youth final and wasn't a Tour Card holder. A year on, he is into the top five and won his maiden ranking major last week in the Grand Slam of Darts.
But while Martin Lukeman for instance fell at the first hurdle on his return to action, Littler showed little signs of wanting to miss another opportunity at major glory. He hit four 180's and 60% on the doubles en route to victory.
Cross didn't play badly averaging 100 but missed three darts at doubles and was punished by Littler who was near flawless.
A 180, 134 and double 20 for Littler set him about early on with a break of throw to make it 2-0. Cross left 49 with Littler setting up double 15 with a 137 but the former wasn't given a chance as Littler hit a 13-darter for 3-0.
Cross missed the bull for 132 and Littler hit 52 for another break. A 13 and 11 darter finished it off for Littler who hit 47 for victory. While the upsets do continue with Masters champion
Stephen Bunting also out.
Mario Vandenbogaerde is the latest to account for a big name with Bunting joining MVG, Wright and Price out of the tournament as well as a number of other big names. It was a 6-2 win for 'Super Mario' who hit a 95.6 average and 60% on the doubles for victory. Luke Humphries and Gary Anderson remain tonight as well as Michael Smith on Stage Two so will they all remain involved or will they follow a similar route.
