McGeeney on switch to PDC: 'I'd have gone the year before if I'd been able to'

Mark McGeeney has given an interview about his switch to the PDC from the BDO and he admitted that it was always his goal to join the elite.

McGeeney said that for him if he wasn’t tied in like he was due to the Lakeside contract that he would have switched earlier.

“I was BDO World Number One and considered myself number 129th in the world as there were 128 tour card holders above me. If you want to be the best, you have got to play against the best, week in week out. That is what I am doing now in the PDC. There’s always a higher goal and the PDC was it," said McGeeney in an interview with Henry Cheal.

“It was time for me to go. I’d have gone the year before if I’d been able to," he added.

Des Jacklin

Jacklin has received a bit of criticism since taking up stewardship of the BDO but for McGeeney he believes he is doing a great job and that is because he is trying to move them forward.

“The BDO are in a transitional period at the moment and Des Jacklin is doing a brilliant job. He is trying to move forward and change the image of the BDO. It won’t be easy and it won’t be quick but change was needed and hopefully Des has them back on track.”

Current form

Finally he spoke about his current form and admitted that he expected more but that he expects progress next year.

“Steady but not spectacular, I expect more out of myself. There are some things I’ve had to get used to, but I think I’ve done okay. Next year, I’ll be moving up the rankings quickly.”
