Cameron Menzies will be one of the leading names at this year's PDC Q-School going through to the Final Stage due to his performances on the Challenge Tour.
But speaking before the tournament, Menzies admitted some of the names involved show it is getting harder and harder to join the ProTour.
"That's the plan. I've seen the names that's there, it's going to be some hard work to get a Tour Card this year. Same as every year, it's really hard to get a Tour Card so whoever gets one deserves it. Hopefully this year I finally get one but it's going to be playing well and a lot of luck," said Menzies to Tungsten Tales.
WDF World Championship and work if Tour Card bid successful
For Menzies, he was also qualified for the WDF World Championship but sees it as only a fallback if he doesn't finally claim a Tour Card.
"I'd like to win that but I think the main thing for everybody is a Tour Card. So that's like a good fallback, the WDF and Challenge Tour. But everybody wants to be on the ProTour as it's life changing.
But one aspect of his life he wouldn't give up is work with Menzies admitting they have been accommodating around his schedule so he should be fine.
"I think I'd still work. The job I do isn't that strenuous, it's Monday-Friday 8-4 or 9-5 so I'm quite lucky, if I got a Tour Card I'd be fine.
Sherrock
Menzies' partner is Fallon Sherrock with the darting duo set to both be involved in Milton Keynes.
He was in the crowd for her game against Steve Beaton and discussed how it felt watching her compared to playing.
"I get nervous anyway but it's so much harder watching because you can't do nothing about it. But I was hoping she just went up there and played well because social media is not the nicest place and her name gets popped around a lot. She gets nervous because she just doesn't want to go up there and not play well."
Next up is Q-School where the spotlight will be on her again and Menzies believes if she plays like she can, she will only improve and can trouble the best.
"If she plays like that at Q-School, she is a player to be reckoned with. She's 27, she'll only get better. If she gets a Tour Card, she'll improve playing against the best."
