Michael van Gerwen celebrates 36th birthday in Turkey with family amid Graz withdrawal

Michael van Gerwen is celebrating his 36th year of life in sunny spheres this year. The three-time world champion is staying with his wife Daphne and children Zoë and Mike in Antalya, Turkey. While enjoying a well-deserved vacation, Van Gerwen is seizing the moment to express his gratitude toward his fans.
On Instagram, the Dutch darts great shared several photos, including a cozy selfie with his family and a photo with his wife. "Celebrating with the fam and feeling thankful for all your birthday wishes," Van Gerwen wrote with the photos. For the world number three, this trip is a welcome break from the hectic pace of darts.
Recent times have not been easy for Van Gerwen. After several disappointing months, in which his form was far from perfect, he recently managed to shine again. In Munich, he took the title on the Euro Tour and that visibly emotionalized him. "Everyone knows where I come from. I've been fighting my own problems the last few months. I've been playing badly the last few weeks. I know I have this in me, but I want to show it week after week," he declared after his triumph.
The pressure under which he must perform did not leave Van Gerwen unmoved. "With all that pressure on me all the time...," he continued candidly. "That irritates me sometimes. People here in the audience have no idea what this means to me. This is everything for me. Winning this tournament in Munich, also on Easter.... I needed this. If you look at how I played this weekend, it was really good again."
So Van Gerwen is missing this weekend at the Austrian Darts Open in Graz, the tournament that 'Mighty Mike' managed to win in 2013, 2017, 2019 and 2022. Next Thursday, he is expected in Birmingham for the thirteenth night of Premier League Darts play.

- The statement from Hearn that "People will be able to watch what they want to watch, the sports they want to watch, when they want to watch it and for a price they can afford" is bizarre. Sport only works when it is shown live - very few people pull a 'Likely Lads' and try to avoid a result so they can watch highlights later. And if darts disappears off free to air ITV, it certainly won't go to the BBC, who couldn't afford it, even if they were interested. So, that leaves Channel 4 or maybe Channel 5. More likely the ITV package will go to someone like Netflix and the rest stay with Sky. There won't actually be any free to air darts at all.StraightArrowNoBull06-05-2025

- ITV coverage is far superior to SKY It is excellent, always very interesting from an extremely knowledgeable team. I love Chris Mason, Jacqui, Alan and Ned, brilliant presenters and so enjoyable. ITV are also losing their absolutely fantastic Tour de France coverage. They do not get enough credit for the fantastic job they do. What the fudge do BBC do with darts? - I was always a fan of Rocky, another one of my heroes banished never to return....unless he changes his name to Anne. Andy didn't need to fix matches, he is a good player and wealthy. It sounds like too many people were involved in the bets, and it rather suitably circumstantial. Richie Gardiner has heat with Rocky. How can anyone predict where a player will throw a dart, I purposely avoided hitting 180 when I played as the organisation would pay £10 for each 180 hit to a charity I refused to contribute to. - Surely then as darts is ‘your job’ then do your job and less exhibitions even if they pay more, or retire and do the exhibition circuit. Appreciate that exhibitions are gauranteed income, you get your fee. Still say scrap the Premier League and even out the season, its only eight of the top guys who lose anything money wise and its not like they are struggling for income.Mysstree29-04-2025
