Michael van Gerwen delivered an excellent performance on Saturday night to secure a spot in the last sixteen at the Baltic Sea Darts Open. With an average of almost 108, he outplayed compatriot Wessel Nijman 6-2.
''Of course (I got a reason to be happy),'' Van Gerwen responded on stage afterwards. ''To win games on this stage is always good and important. You need to make sure that you make the most of it yourself. To produce good darts all the time is very hard. I was glad I was able to do what I did.''
On Sunday afternoon, Van Gerwen will play Andrew Gilding in the third round of the Euro Tour tournament in Kiel. 'Mighty Mike' is ahead 6-2 in the head-to-head with Gilding, but the last two encounters were both won by the Englishman.
"We all know Andrew Gilding is like an assassin. He can do things on strange moments. I need to make sure I'm sharp and need to make sure that I'm going to win that game as well,'' Van Gerwen concluded.
