"My dad got emotional and nearly made me cry” – Cameron Crabtree reflects on touching moment after earning his PDC Tour Card

Cameron Crabtree is enjoying a hugely impressive debut year in professional darts. Earlier this year, the young Englishman earned himself a coveted PDC Tour Card at the gruelling Q-School, and things have moved quickly ever since. Through consistent performances and a striking level of determination, Crabtree has climbed to 78th in the world rankings – a rise that hasn’t gone unnoticed within the sport.

Winning his PDC Tour Card was an emotional milestone for Crabtree – not just for him, but for his whole family. “When I came off, my dad got emotional and nearly made me cry. It was a bit weird, because he doesn't really get emotional," Crabtree recalls in conversation with the Weekly Dartscast. "I wasn't expecting that!"

The road to success was anything but easy. Q-School is infamous as one of the toughest events in darts, where hundreds of players battle for only a handful of Tour Cards.

“I still wanted to try and win the tournament," Crabtree recalls, not content with merely securing a Tour Card via the Order of Merit route. "I thought that if you can win a day at Q-School, that's quite an impressive achievement. But my adrenaline was cranked on and I was quite excited. I couldn't hit anything in the next game, so that was the end of that. I didn't really care. I wanted to win the tournament, but I was quite happy to go home and celebrate."

Since his breakthrough, Crabtree has proved he belongs at the top level. With several strong runs at Players Championship events and a solid scoring average, he’s beginning to build a reputation as one of the sport’s most promising young players.

If Crabtree can maintain this trajectory, 2026 could well be the year his name becomes firmly established among the PDC elite.
