Kevin Doets has once again survived the first round at the
Dutch Darts Masters. 'Hawkeye' was the first player to beat one of the eight PDC seeds at the
World Series tournament in Den Bosch.
Last year he was already too strong for Peter Wright in the first round and this time
Nathan Aspinall had to bow deeply to the Dutchman who lives in Sweden. With an average of 95 and a finishing percentage of 60 percent, Doets put in a very solid performance.
Aspinall missed one chance to keep his own leg in the first leg and then immediately had to allow a break. A 45 finish put Doets up 1-0. He then doubled the lead via tops, before Aspinall got on the scoreboard with a 32 checkout.
Doets then kept his own leg and then managed to break Aspinall for the second time by cleverly throwing out 138. A 60 check-out then brought Doets to 5-1, before he ended the match with a 14-darter.
Albeit
Richard Veenstra didn't have the same fate against
Rob Cross. Veenstra started well against the former world champion and led 3-2 by hitting 97 and 110. Flyers' was not out in six innings and saw Cross equalize the score with a 17-darter. The Englishman then produced a 12-darter to make it 4-3.
A 100 finish also followed, making it 5-3 for Cross. Veenstra then had three more chances to stay in the match, but missed his three chances on double 8. Cross then decided the match via double 16.
