Nine-dart hero Van Gerwen produces outstanding display to dispel Gurney and reach UK Open final

The final is all set at the 2020 UK Open with Michael van Gerwen set to face Gerwyn Price as expected after easing past Daryl Gurney in stunning fashion.

Van Gerwen hit a nine-dart finish en route to underline his return to the foray in TV events this weekend; as he aims to win his first since 2019 Players Championship Finals in the same venue.

It was a 110.32 average with five 180's and 52 percent on the doubles for the World Number One as he claimed a 11-3 victory; now there is only one game left to decide the victor between two of the best players in the world.

The duo were together to begin the tie with Van Gerwen as usual not playing at his best; but still leading at 3-1, despite that Gurney went into the break at only 3-2 behind.

That was as good as it got for Gurney as the nine-dart finish was the true catalyst for Van Gerwen to run riot almost. This was shown with Gurney missing a dart at the bull and MVG stretched his lead to 7-2.

At the break, Gurney was starting down the barrel of defeat at 8-2 down with an 111.8 average and 50 percent on the doubles. He finally stopped the rot to hold at 8-3 down; but he didn't get the chance in the next leg despite hitting back-to-back 180's and Van Gerwen went one away due to further missed doubles.

He finalised the tie from there to deny Gurney once again the question is whether Price will be able to match him dart for dart and stun him after such a great weekend for the Green Machine. He is very much back with a bang!
