A bizarre moment Friday night during the duel between Dirk van Duijvenbode and Danny Noppert at the World Series of Darts Finals. Van Duijvenbode wanted to throw an arrow at the board, but at that moment something was thrown from the audience onto the stage.
''That was an eggplant,'' Noppert revealed afterward in conversation with AD.nl and others. ''That one popped apart. I already felt something coming against me'', continued the darter from Joure.
The remains of the eggplant were then kicked aside by the two Dutch darters. Neither darters were really affected by the thrown projectile. ''When you're standing at the oche and you get eggplant in your face, that doesn't make you happy. We kicked that eggplant aside for a bit. I've never seen anything like that before. Crazy things happen sometimes and I hope whoever did this was tackled and thrown out. Like beer in your neck, you don't want that either,'' Noppert said.
The person who threw the eggplant at the stage was reportedly standing near a security guard at the time of the incident. The perpetrator was then immediately captured and removed from the venue.
