Numbers only the best can rival: Wessel Nijman becomes the eighth player to win six or more ProTour titles in a single season

There is no stopping Wessel Nijman currently. We are not even a week into May and he has confirmed a sixth PDC ProTour title in 2026 after thrashing Max Hopp in the final of Players Championship 14. He adds his name to a select number of darters, and there is still more to come from the Dutchman.

In the 12 Players Championship events Nijman has competed in this year, he has reached the final in six of them, winning five. The other title came in the European Darts Trophy after taking down an inform Gerwyn Price 8-3 in a brilliant final display for his first ever Euro Tour title.

It seems that no one can actually halt the 25-year-old in his tracks. His triumph in Hildesheim marks an eighth Players Championship win, and a ninth PDC title.

He got past the likes of Daniel Klose (6–2), Jurjen van der Velde (6–1), and Niall Culleton (6–3) before averaging over 102 to take down Joe Cullen (6-4) in the last-16. He upped it to nearly 103 against a lacklustre Krzysztof Ratajski in the quarterfinals (6-1) before demolishing fellow Dutchman Danny Noppert 7-2 to make the final. He offered Hopp no chance, dropping just one leg to taste more glory.

Despite it not even being halfway through the season, Nijman's six titles have him in esteemed company at the top of darts. A handful of players have managed to win six or more ProTour titles in a calendar year.

As expected, Michael van Gerwen tops the list. He enjoyed a spectacular spell of domination from 2016 to 2018, practically winning everything on offer. In 2016 and 2018, he won a grand total of 14 ProTour titles. That stat is unexpected to be broken anytime soon, although if Nijman continues his fine form, then there is no reason why he cannot get close.

The great Phil Taylor won 13 ProTour titles in 2008, and the year following racked up another 12. Van Barneveld managed seven in 2007 when he broke onto the PDC scene. Gary Anderson also managed that number but in 2011. On six titles, tied with Nijman, is Simon Whitlock 2010 and Gerwyn Price from 2023.
