On Sunday 11 June, Basel hosted the second SDC Tour tournament of the season. A total of 118 players participated, including 104 SDC Tour card holders and 14 reserve players.
The tournament was played in 32 groups; 10 groups of three and 22 groups of four. Only the top two from each group advanced to the round of the last 64. The round of the last 64 saw an exciting duel between Saturday's two semi-finalists, Ansh Sood and Luis Camacho. Thanks in part to an impressive 146 checkout, Sood won the match 4-2. Mika FlΓΌckiger and Barry Nelson were eliminated in the same round as Camacho.
At the last 32, Sood lost 0-4 to Fabian Schor. In the same round, Felix Schiertz lost to Jochen Graudenz in an exciting match, while Frieder Lang, Patrick Ganter and Croatian Matija Prpic were also eliminated.
In the round of 16, Andy Bless won 4-1 over Rocco Fulciniti. Bless then advanced to the quarter-finals with a convincing 5-1 win over Marino Schmid. Marcel Walpen had a harder time and fought back from a 2-4 deficit to win 5-4 over Senad Velagic from Austria. The other semi-finalists were two German players: Hagen Senst and Marco Obst.
In the semi-finals, we saw two contrasting matches. Walpen did not give away a single leg and won with a dominant 6-0, supported by an average of 91. In the other semi-final, Obst made a comeback after falling behind 3-5 and survived several match darts against Senst to eventually win 6-5.
Obst started the final in excellent form. The German player won the first four legs by 15, 14, 16 and 14 darts to build an impressive 4-0 lead. In leg 5, Walpen got on the scoreboard with a 101 checkout. However, Obst regained control and won two legs in a row to take a 6-1 lead. In the eighth leg, Walpen replied with an 80 checkout, but in the next leg, Obst sealed the title with double 8.

- It seems odd that at the World Championship they have dancing ladies in hot pants and pom poms and yet the walk on ladies who were much more elegantly attired get removed from the scene. I met Daniella at Silverstone when she was a grid girl in the F1 race and was very pleasant indeed.
