Luke Littler sealed the PDC World Darts Championship this time last week in a sporting occasion that gripped the nation. But in reality, it was not the record which was set last year despite the average amount of viewers going up tournament wide.

In figures from Sky Sports shared to Broadcast, it indicated an average audience of 2.7million for the final with a peak of around 3.1million as Littler saw off MVG comfortably 7-3 to win the sports biggest crown.

But while it was short of the record which was 3.1million average and 3.71million peak which was captured during his magic emergence 12 months ago, it still very much produced new records of its own.

It is higher than any other non-football audience on Sky Sports in the Last 12 months ahead of F1 coverage of the British GP which attracted 2.2million.

The semi-finals averaged 1.5million and viewing figures are up overall 39% year on year averaging 471k after the semi-finals which is higher than last year's full tournament including the final.

In effect, it was a hard act to follow. But the darting effect was also felt in Europe as Germany's Sport1 had a peak audience of 3.1 million and an average of 2.19million for the final. An average of 701,000 viewers tuned in to watch it over the tournament's run.

This was also a record for Sport1 racking up an overall market share of 13% over the course of the event. So while it was an Englishman who won the event, it is furthering the sport even further afield too.
