PDC sparks hilarity with innuendo-laden posts during Australian Darts Masters

The Australian Darts Masters delivered more than just eye-catching performances on stage last weekend. The PDC also drew attention away from the matches. Two posts on the darting body’s official X account racked up millions of views thanks to a cheeky play on words.

The trigger was two first-round ties in Wollongong. Stephen Bunting faced Australian Mal Cuming. The Englishman had few problems and advanced with a 6-3 win. For the PDC, the Australian’s surname was reason enough to get creative. Shortly after the match, the line “Bunting stops Cuming!” appeared on the organisation’s social channel. The double entendre certainly did not go unnoticed. The post was widely shared and topped 2.4 million views.

Wade sees the funny side
It did not stop there. James Wade also found himself at the centre of an unintended pun. ‘The Machine’ swept aside Tim Pusey 6-0. The PDC summed up the whitewash with the words: “Wade hammers Pusey”.
Wade quickly realised the phrasing was no accident. The former major winner took it in good humour. “Someone had fun with that headline,” he said.
The posts also went down well with darts fans. For a moment, attention shifted from the on-oche action to the person running the PDC’s social media. “The admin is having a great day,” one follower noted. Another fan replied: “I bet his wife is happy.”

With two simple result posts, the PDC managed to reach a far bigger audience than usual. In particular, “Bunting stops Cuming” became one of the most talked-about posts around the World Series event in Australia.
