PDC World Championship 2020 seeds profile: Gary Anderson and Daryl Gurney

As the PDC World Championship approaches, we take a look at two more seeded players aiming to regain form at the Ally Pally.

Last time we profiled Peter Wright and James Wade and this time it is the turn of Gary Anderson and Daryl Gurney. All odds are provided by World Championship sponsors William Hill, and are correct at time at publication.

Age: 48

Nationality: Scottish

Anderson comes into this year's World Championship potentially with a point to prove. 'The Flying Scotsman' has spent the majority of 2019 out injured including the Premier League and at times has flattered to deceive when he has played on the big stage.

A Quarter-Final though at the recent Grand Slam of Darts where he lost to the eventual imperious champion Gerwyn Price as well as winning the World Cup of Darts have been his two best overall performances of the year you could argue.

Him not playing the Players Championship Finals could help him though. When Anderson wants to play in a tournament and get up for it, he can still be one of the best players in darts but what Flying Scotsman turning up has been the issue. He can average a sublime 110 to a poor 71 as exhibited at the World Series of Darts Finals.

Brendan Dolan or Nitin Kumar await Anderson in the second round and if it is the former, he could be an early casualty. 'The History Maker' is back playing magnificent darts and as he showed last year at the Palace, never count him out.

Daryl Gurney

Nationality: Northern Irish

Odds to win: 40/1

Gurney has similarly had an up and down year on the oche with his wins at the German Darts Championship and Players Championship in Barnsley the main highlights winning wise.

'Superchin' has also reached the Semi-Final at the European Championship, World Matchplay and the Premier League; but despite these near misses, he has also not performed well at the World Grand Prix. Champions League and in defending his Players Championship Finals title.

Gurney though in comparison has played a lot more darts than Anderson so can be afforded a tournament off but this time his aim will be to go further than last year's Third Round and he will have Justin Pipe or Benjamin Pratnemer to deal with in the second round which could give him the perfect chance to do so.
