The Premier League Darts 2024 stops off in Nottingham this Thursday night for night 7 of this year's campaign. Although he was touted by many, one man who missed out on selection this time around, was Chris Dobey.
"It is what it is. They've picked their eight for a reason," Dobey assesses in conversation with Double Top. Peter Wright in particular has been used as an example of someone Dobey should have replaced in the lineup with this talk even getting to 'Snakebite' himself as he launched a rant at the Masters earlier this year. "What's he won? He won a Masters a Mickey Mouse tournament," Wright said scathingly of Dobey.

Showing great maturity however, Dobey holds no ill will towards Wright and fully understands why the former world champion has made the cut. "People forget what Peter Wright has done. He's obviously won quite a lot in the game but last year, he won the European Championships which puts him up there and you have to respect that," Dobey says.
"I was disappointed not to be selected," he admits. "But, I think it would have different if I'd have won that game against Rob Cross at the World Championships (Dobey led 4-0 before losing 5-4 ed.). I've just got to put that behind me and hopefully, I can push myself further and get selected for next year."
Dobey is in no doubt though that if he'd have seen out victory over Cross to book his spot in the World Darts Championship semi-finals, he'd be playing in Nottingham this Thursday night. "I'd been consistent throughout all the TV majors, reached the quarters of quite a few of them and who knows I'd won that one, maybe I'd have gone on to win the title," Dobey says.
