Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price have suffered more darting misery with early exits at the Players Championship Finals during Friday night's evening session with Daryl Gurney and Thibault Tricole gaining big wins.
Wright had a poor Grand Slam of Darts, while Price failed to qualify after not winning through the qualifier and is part of a number of names who are struggling for form ahead of the biggest tournament on the darting calendar. Gurney has been in good form as of late and took advantage in a scintillating display.
'Superchin' surged to victory 6-1 with a 108.8 average, five 180's and 6/9 on the doubles as Wright again will be searching for answers ahead of Ally Pally. While Tricole sealed one of his best wins with Price again defeated early on.

'The Iceman' has said that when it clicks, he will be back to his best but it hasn't yet happened for him and won't in Minehead. He was defeated 6-4. Price who was runner-up back in 2019 fought back from 5-1 mounting a comeback but Tricole found a way to gain the final leg. After missing match darts previously, he hit 62 to complete the feat.
Elsewhere Damon Heta thrashed a struggling Mervyn King 6-1 to open Stage Two. It now means that 'The King' must head to the World Championship qualifier on Monday in a bid to reach Ally Pally and save his Tour Card.
Jonny Clayton also showed green shoots as of late but he has failed in his Minehead bid with Florian Hempel who usually comes alive this time of year punished 23% on the outer ring to claim it 6-3. Big names continue to fall but what about Littler, Humphries and Van Gerwen? Will they remain unscathed?
