The 2025 PDC Winmau World Masters continues to rumble on in Milton Keynes, with both Peter Wright and Luke Humphries the latest names to secure their spot in Saturday's round of 16.
Wright was pushed all the way by Kevin Doets, before eventually prevailing in a deciding leg. It was Doets who took the first set 2-1 after a fine 127 finish in the third leg. Wright then won set two after a 64 finish and a 13-darter, making it 1-1 in sets again. Doets then took the lead after a 15-darter in the first leg of set three, before 'Hawkeye' took the third set 2-0 after throwing a 12-darter in the second leg.
Wright countered with a 14-darter in the first leg of the fourth set. Doets dragged out a third leg, and at that point was one leg away from victory. Wright, however, ran away with the set after a clever 12-darter. In the decisive set, Doets took the lead after a 56 check-out. Wright then forced an all-deciding leg by throwing a 15-darter in his own leg. Doets was allowed to start the final leg, but was not out in five visits. Wright then took the win with a 13-darter.
Next up, was Luke Humphries vs Joe Cullen. It was the Rockstar who had the darts in the opening set and moved 1-0 by winning the first leg. Humphries though, held his own in leg 2, before breaking in leg 3 to take the set and move 1-0 up.
The second set was all Humphries as the world number one raced through it in back to back legs, doubling his advantage in sets. Cullen, came out for set 3 firing, stopping the rot with a 12-darter, but then criminally missed three clear darts for the set in the next, allowing Humphries to move one away from the match. In the next leg it was Humphries turn to miss on the outer ring, passing up matchdarts and with Cullen punishing, the former Masters champion got a set on the board.
Taking out 220 in four darts, Humphries took the opening leg of set 4, quickly putting those matchdart disappointments behind him. With both missing numerous darts at the double in the next leg, Humphries eventually nailed double 5 to secure victory with his 7th matchdart.
