Peter Wright has advanced to the semifinals of the World Series of Darts Finals at the expense of Daryl Gurney. On Sunday night, 'Snakebite' will face the winner of the match between Rob Cross and Michael Smith in the last four.
It was a bit of a damp squibb. Neither player gave much emotion, nor was the level spectacular. Wright had an average of 93.31, while Gurney posted an average of 89.10.
The game quickly went Wright's way. He broke Gurney in the first leg with a 20-darter, then doubled the margin with a 14-darter. Leg three went to Gurney, before Wright went into the break with a 4-1 lead via a 17-darter and an 18-darter.
Gurney missed a chance on double 18 after the break to close to 4-2. Wright took advantage and brought the score to 5-1 with a 14-darter. Gurney then did throw out 91, and even came back to 5-3 with a 16-darter. Wright countered with a 121 checkout, then signed off with an 18-darter to make it 7-3.
In the third session, Gurney provided another high by throwing out 158. However, that turned out to be the last leg the Northern Irishman won. Wright was able to run out to 9-4 with an 18-darter and a 17-darter, before deciding the match with a 12-darter.
