Petersen after claiming maiden PDC title at German Darts Championship: "I've been working hard for what feels like a lifetime"

Devon Petersen is a PDC ranking winner after a phenomenal weekend at the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim with the European Tour returning after a hiatus since March.

Petersen has established himself in the PDC Summer and Autumn Series as one of the most in-form players on the tour and showed why with a brilliant victory in the final over Jonny Clayton capping it off.

'The African Warrior' spoke afterwards and said it was a culmination of all his hard work and effort over the course of his career so far.

He also admitted that there was times over the past few years where it has been difficult and the doubts have been there for him whether he'd ever reach this point.

"I've been working hard for what feels like a lifetime, since I was 15-years-old," said Petersen.

"The last two to three years have felt like the hardest because of the level of players I've been competing against.

"Sometimes you just feel like you're never going to get there because the players out there are so good.

"Losing to Gerwyn Price at the Autumn Series spurred me on to win this title.

"It's an amazing feeling. To stand on this stage as a PDC champion in front of fans is just fantastic, it's a very special night for me."
