Premier League Darts 2021 line up
The eight remaining players in the Premier League Darts begin a crucial week of the prestigious darts competition on Monday.
From Monday to Thursday, the final four nights of the regular competition will be completed. The four best players will battle for the overall title in the Premier League Darts on Friday night.
Michael van Gerwen leads the standings after twelve rounds with seventeen points. The Dutchman has a two point lead over Nathan Aspinall and Dimitri van den Bergh, while he is three points ahead of José de Sousa and Jonny Clayton.
Van Gerwen was in the final of the Premier League Darts from 2013 to 2019 and managed to win the tournament five times. Last year Mighty Mike surprisingly missed out on participation in the playoffs and Glen Durrant took the spoils on the final night.
That will not happen again on Friday night, as Durrant, along with Rob Cross, dropped out after nine rounds of play. Van Gerwen will focus first and foremost on securing a spot in the top four, but will undoubtedly also be looking at the £25,000 bonus that the number one of the competition receives.
The next match is in that respect immediately an important one, because number two Aspinall awaits. After that there are encounters with Gary Anderson, José de Sousa and Peter Wright.
Anderson will have to continue the line of the previous block to have a chance to participate in the playoffs. The Scot won his last two matches, but is still two points behind on a virtual spot in the last four. Anderson is one point ahead of James Wade and three ahead of Peter Wright, who seemingly can forget about a spot in the play-offs.
