The PDC may add an extra televised tournament to next year’s calendar. That was revealed on the Darts Draait Door podcast, although Vincent van der Voort immediately stressed that, for now, it’s mostly still rumours.

During the podcast, the topic arose that the packed darts calendar might be expanded again. Van der Voort cautiously hinted that talks are taking place behind the scenes about a new major event. “Next year there will be another televised tournament,” said Van der Voort. “There’s not much known about it yet.”
The former top darter could not give many details yet. He also said there is still a lot of uncertainty about the exact timing. When asked whether the new event might be played in the spring, Van der Voort responded cautiously. “No idea yet,” he said.

Possible new TV tournament in Germany

Germany does seem to be firmly in the frame as the location for the new event. In recent years, the German market has become hugely important for the PDC, with packed arenas during Euro Tours, the European Championship, and various World Series events. “I think in Germany,” said Van der Voort. “But where exactly, I don’t know.”
Rumours are also circulating about the format. According to Van der Voort, it could be a tournament with a setup somewhat comparable to the UK Open, traditionally one of the most popular televised events on the calendar.
“People are talking about something similar to the UK Open,” he said. "But nobody really knows the details. We’ll have to wait and see whether it’s true."

The Dutchman also made it clear that he has not yet received any official confirmation from the PDC. Van der Voort therefore didn’t want to be too definitive about the plans.
“It’s all rumors,” he said with a laugh. “It’s not like Matt Porter called me and said: 'Hey Vin, listen buddy… This is what we’re doing.’”
If the tournament does go ahead, it would mean yet another addition to an already busy darts schedule. In recent years, the PDC has heavily focused on growth, with more Euro Tours, bigger prize funds, and an increasing number of international events.
