Premier League Darts standings after penultimate night: Van Gerwen's chances of top spot are close to being over

Gerwyn Price moved a step closer to securing first place in Premier League Darts on Thursday night. 'The Iceman' lost to Michael Smith in Sheffield in the weekly final.

After 15 of 16 rounds of play, Price stands on 36 points, followed by Smith and Michael van Gerwen with 33 and 31 points, respectively. Price needs one win during the final round of play to finish definitively as number one in the league standings.

Behind the top three, there is still a battle between Jonny Clayton and Nathan Aspinall for the last available spot for the playoffs.

Clayton is currently in pole position with 24 points, while Aspinall has 22 points. 'The Asp' needs a final place during the final round of play in Aberdeen to still finish fourth, but Clayton would have to lose his opening match.

Chris Dobey (14 points), Dimitri van den Bergh (11 points) and Peter Wright (nine points) have been out of the race for the playoffs for several weeks.
