The Quarter-Final line-up is now set at the
New Zealand Darts Masters with
Gerwyn Price and
Dimitri van den Bergh surging through to the final day in Hamilton.
Price continued his superb form by seeing off Ben Robb who posed a tricky test in the latter half of the tie but in reality had too much work to do to defeat ‘The Iceman’.
He concluded the tie with a 124 checkout, six 180’s and a 105 average. He initially went 4-0 up before the revival started as Robb took out 126 to trail 4-1 and kept adding legs with Price missing three match darts at 5-3 up.
But the aforementioned blockbuster checkout sealed the win at 6-3 as he averted danger. While for Van den Bergh, he sealed a superb win over Simon Whitlock with an incredible late surge to deny ‘The Wizard’ who led 3-1 but lost 6-4 in the end.
He sealed it with a 123 checkout and a 100.3 average as he looks to add to his World Series title tally as top seed again this week.
Van den Bergh missed bull for an opening break off an 87 checkout and Whitlock pinned double 20 for the opening leg.
After missing multiple darts at double to hold, Van den Bergh saw his throw broken at the first opportunity by Whitlock after a timely 180 but Van den Bergh had a superb 15-darter to break back finishing it with a 93 checkout.
But Whitlock hit back with a 60 checkout to break straight back and surge 3-1 ahead. Van den Bergh though sealed parity at 3-3. Whitlock went 4-3 up with an 84 checkout but from there didn’t win another leg after a superb surge which saw Van den Bergh draw level and then hit an 11-darter 80 checkout followed by a 123 checkout on the bull to claim it.
