Qingyu Zhan does the double on the China ProTour and closes in on top spot in the rankings

Qingyu Zhan enjoyed an excellent weekend on the China ProTour. The Chinese darter captured two of the four titles on offer in Wuhan, taking a big step toward first place in the rankings. China’s number two, who made his World Cup of Darts debut in June, won Events 9 and 11 and, after his strong showing, sits less than 400 dollars behind leader Xiaocheng Zong.

Events 9 through 12 of the China ProTour were played in Wuhan last weekend. Zhan was the standout performer, reaching three finals and ultimately claiming two titles.
His first tournament win came at Event 9. The 28-year-old Chinese player made a tough start, trailing 3-0 in his opening match against Zicheng Xu. Zhan refused to give in and battled back superbly to force a decider, where he edged it 4-3.
That comeback sparked an impressive tournament. On the way to the final, Zhan dropped only three legs in his subsequent matches. He had to dig deep again in the showpiece. Against Lihao Wen he once more fell behind, this time 4-2, but again showed resilience. Reeling off three straight legs, he turned it around to win 5-4 and secured his first title of the weekend.
Second tournament win after a third straight final
Fresh success followed the very next day. At Event 11, Zhan hit top gear again. Up to the quarterfinals he dropped just one leg, before Kehua Wang forced him into a deciding leg in the last eight. Zhan passed that test as well.
In the semifinals he then saw off Lizhou Li 5-3 to reach a third consecutive final. There he faced Zhuolun Luo, who could do little against Zhan’s strong form. With a convincing 5-1 victory, the World Cup debutant sealed his second title of the weekend.

Lihao Wen gains revenge in Event 10
Between those two titles, Zhan had to settle for runner-up at Event 10. This time it was Lihao Wen who avenged his earlier defeat on Saturday. Wen reached the final after two hard-fought deciding-leg wins against Yongbo Pan and Zhiwei Lin. Notably, he also came back from a 3-0 deficit in his opener against Pan.
After a commanding semifinal win over Tong Xu, Wen and Zhan met again in the final. This time Wen completely flipped the script. He dominated the decider and beat Zhan 5-1 to take Event 10.
First title of the year for Xicheng Han
The final title of the weekend went to Xicheng Han. At Event 12 he was crowned a China ProTour event winner for the first time this season. Han started strongly with two whitewash victories in his first three matches and then beat Chao Geng 4-2 in the quarterfinals.

Han maintained his excellent level in the business end of the tournament. In the semifinals he eliminated Event 10 winner Wen 5-1, before giving Tong Xu few chances in the final. Thanks to a convincing 5-2 victory, Han claimed his first China ProTour title of 2026.
Battle for top spot heats up
Despite a less successful weekend, Xiaocheng Zong retains the lead in the China ProTour rankings. His advantage, however, has shrunk considerably. With two titles and three finals, Qingyu Zhan is now within 400 dollars of top spot.
The battle for first place resumes at the end of August. Events 13 through 16 of the China ProTour will be played on 08/22/2026 and 08/23/2026, giving Zhan another chance to take over the lead in the rankings.

- Ultimately, Vin man knew when to call it quits. Barney was excellent and one of the greatest darts player ever, but he just doesn't have that ability anymore. Vinman working in media is only saying what he thinks and I like how he doesn't sugar coat things and is completely honest and direct with his comments. - I agree that this season the format was a bit stale, it would be better to have some new faces rotated in through the season. I also think they should vary the format a bit as it doesn't count for rankings, they could have different varieties of 501 (e.g. double start) or just different challenges.mikedarts03-07-2026
- I don't really understand why its an issue that Littler doesn't play in the events, they are barely televised so there is no draw for marketing and it gives the other players a better chance to define their narratives. The events are more of a throw back to old events. - Not everyone wants to watch pub players throwing 70 averages for about £500. Premier League is indeed a cash cow, but it does its job of promoting the game.
