The field of participants for the 2024 World Grand Prix is almost set. After this weekend's Swiss Darts Trophy, we became which players may participate in the double-in double-out tournament in Leicester.
The World Grand Prix will take place Oct. 7-13 at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester, where 32 players will compete for a major title. The top-16 in the world rankings and the top-16 in the Pro Tour rankings will be invited.
By now it is already clear that 31 players are certain to participate in the World Grand Prix. The field of participants Michael van Gerwen, World champion and defending champion Luke Humphries, teen sensation Luke Littler and big names such as Peter Wright, Michael Smith, Gerwyn Price, Gary Anderson and James Wade will also be there.
The only player who is not yet sure of his place is Luke Woodhouse, who currently occupies the 16th spot on the Pro Tour rankings. He lost to Wessel Nijman in the first round of the Swiss Darts Trophy in Basel on Friday, but also saw his closest rivals quickly eliminated.
Nijman of all people is still one of the three players who can rob Woodhouse of his spot at the World Grand Prix. The Dutchman has a monster task ahead of him to achieve this. Nijman must win the Swiss Darts Trophy to still qualify. The same goes for Callan Rydz and Madars Razma, who therefore need to win four more matches to secure a starting ticket for the World Grand Prix.
