Raymond van Barneveld has easily qualified for the last sixteen of the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam. The 57-year-old from The Hague was 6-0 way too strong for Swede Johan Engstrom and will face the winner of the match between Luke Littler and Ross Smith in the next round.
'Barney' began energetically and won the opening leg in 14 darts. The second leg also went to the Dutchman from The Hague with a 67-finish. In the third leg Engstrom got his first chance at a double, the bull, but could not capitalize. Van Barneveld took advantage and hit the double 5 with his last dart to take a 3-0 lead.
Also in the fourth leg of the match, the Swede had no chance to hit a double. Van Barneveld threw his third 180 in four legs and used double 6 to take a comfortable 4-0 lead. With a 13-darter the fifth leg went easily to the Dutchman and he seemed on his way to a whitewash. And a whitewash it became. Engstrom had one more chance on tops to win a leg but the Swede was unable to do so. With a 68 finish 'Barney' finally locked up the match and won 6-0 with an average of 95.94.
Just like last week in Antwerp, Dimitri van den Bergh again failed to win in the first round. This time Englishman Chris Dobey was 6-5 too strong for 'The Dreammaker'. The first five legs everything went with the darts. The next leg the Belgian got the chance to post a break, and did so successfully. This gave him a 4-2 lead.
Hollywood, however, came back into the match. Via a 16-darter and a 13-darter the Englishman levelled the score again. Van den Bergh then managed to keep his own leg via a spectacular 160 finish to regain the lead. In the tenth leg, "The Dreammaker" looked to decide the match but missed four match darts before Dobey levelled the score with double 16. In the last leg, Dobey delivered the final blow with a magnificent 132 finish. Using the single bull and triple 19, he hit the bullseye from an awkward angle to decide the match.
