Raymond van Barneveld showed top form heading into the 2025
World Darts Championship on Friday night. The 57-year-old Dutch darting icon managed to take the title at an exhibition tournament in Aberdeen.
In addition to Van Barneveld,
Stephen Bunting, John Henderson, Gary Anderson and Jonny Clayton were also in Scotland. The lineup was completed by three local darters from Scotland.
One of these local players faced Van Barneveld. The five-time world champion defeated Scott Richardson with an average of 104. In the semifinals Van Barneveld again reached an average of 104, this time to beat Jonny Clayton 4-3, while Bunting won from Anderson in the other semifinal.
The final ended up being a top match between Van Barneveld and Bunting. It was the Dutchman who prevailed 4-2 with an average of no less than 106.88. Bunting came to an average of 104 in this match.
Many world top players play exhibition events during this period. Not primarily for a nice extra pocket money, but also to keep up match rhythm ahead of the World Darts Championship.
For Van Barneveld, the tournament at Alexandra Palace begins on Saturday, Dec. 21. Then he will play the winner of the match between Nick Kenny and Stowe Buntz in the evening session.
