Nicknamed the 'Voice of Darts',
Russ Bray's iconic 180 call was a regular sight at PDC events for the best part of three decades. At the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship however, Bray called an end to his full-time referee work.
The 67-year-old Bray, whose distinctively gravely voice earned him recognition and love across the darting world, played an important role in the sport's global growth over the past four decades. Although as mentioned, his full-time referee work is over, he is still active in a new role as PDC ambassador throughout 2024. Bray is also still occasionally active as a referee at World Series of Darts tournaments.
As revealed by the
official website of the PDC, Bray is now set to recount and recall all his many tales from nearly 30 years at the highest level of the sport in his new book "All About Darts - The ultimate guide to the world's greatest sport."
"'All About Darts - The ultimate guide to the world's greatest sport' will see Bray recall the best matches he has refereed, the greatest comebacks and look back on some of his most memorable moments," writes the PDC's official announcement.
Bray represented Hertfordshire as a player at County level and joined the PDC as a referee in July 1996.He has since witnessed a number of iconic moments in the sport, including the historic 2007 World Darts Championship final between Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld at the Circus Tavern. He also refereed John Part's remarkable victory over Taylor in 2003, and the first world titles for Adrian Lewis, Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Luke Humphries in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2020 and 2024 respectively.
As such, there are likely to be many interesting and intriguing stories to tell from Bray who has seen everything from the days of Eric Bristow and John Lowe to the recent rise of Luke Littler.
Bray was inducted into the PDC Hall of Fame before the 2024 World Darts Championship final
