There was a lot of clamour mainly from the tabloid media and broadcasters surrounding a potential Luke Littler v Fallon Sherrock clash when the PDC World Darts Championship draw was made. But it will instead be Ryan Meikle facing the favourite for the title on Saturday after a 3-2 win.

A battle of Barber v Hairdresser as two players who have cut hair in past lives albeit moreso of a recent job for Meikle was won by the Suffolk ace who came from a set down to prevail over the Queen of the Palace.

Sherrock nearly gave the fans reason to dream. She opened with the first set and looked superb as Meikle flattered to deceive. But his game got better and Sherrock's didn't which held the key. Now it will be Meikle who has already toppled one player highly favoured by the crowd who will have to do so again.

Sherrock like alluded to had the dream start as she sealed the opening set in three straight legs. But Meikle hit straight back, he too also claimed it in three unanswered legs as he made it 1-1 with a 111 checkout to restore parity.

Meikle continued to breeze about his business and show that he was a cut above Sherrock at least for now as he made it 2-1 in sets with a 119 checkout along the way with another three leg burst.

He hit a 122 checkout to send it all the way in the next set but Sherrock had the throw and pinned 48 for 2-2 and to send it all the way. Meikle rattled the wire twice from 57 for a hold. But Sherrock missed two darts at double 20 for a break and Meikle returned for double 10 for 1-0. Sherrock made it 1-1 pinning double 20. Double 19 for Meikle saw him hold and go one away. Sherrock missed 170 to hold and send it all the way. Meikle then responded with a 96 checkout for the win.
