Eight players are left in the running at this year's
World Matchplay with the first two Quarter-Finals scheduled for Thursday evening.
The first is a repeat of last year's final between
Peter Wright and
Dimitri van den Bergh which was won by the former. Wright won during this tournament against Madars Razma (10-4) and Krzysztof Ratajski (13-11), while Van den Bergh easily saw off Callan Rydz (10-2) and Rowby-John Rodriguez (11-6).
The head to head goes the way of Wright with 10/13 matches won with two wins for 'The Dreammaker' and a Premier League draw.
The winner of the duel between Wright and Van den Bergh will meet
Michael van Gerwen or Nathan Aspinall in the semi-final. They will also compete against each other on Thursday evening.
After Van Gerwen struggled to deal with Adrian Lewis (10-7) in the first round, Joe Cullen (11-5) was convincingly defeated. Aspinall first recorded a nice 10-5 win over title outsider Luke Humphries, before also eliminating James Wade (11-9). The head-to-head is slightly in favor of the Dutchman. He has won eight of the fourteen previous matches between these two players.
