The new Euro Tour season is about to start again. Just like last year, it will happen in Wieze, where the
Belgian Darts Open 2025 will be held. A field of 48 players will compete for the first Euro Tour title of the year.
With established names, up-and-coming talents and a frenzied Belgian crowd, the first day of play promises immediate fireworks. On Friday afternoon, the first eight matches of the first round will be played. The winners will advance to the second round, where an encounter with a player from the top-16 of the world ranking list awaits. Read below which eight matches are scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Follow the Belgian Darts Open 2025 via our LIVE SCORE!Luke Woodhouse v Cedric Waegemans
Luke Woodhouse is not a player who relies on huge outliers, but is instead a player who always packs his rounds. 'The Shed' did well on the Euro Tour last year, and had a good World Championship by reaching the last sixteen. This season, Woodhouse also has a quarterfinal to his name by reaching the last eight at Players Championship 1.
In the first match of the tournament we also get to see the first Euro Tour debutant. Cedric Waegemans secured a place in the main tournament of the Belgian Darts Open through the qualification tournament for Belgian darts. Waegemans participated in the Q-School in 2021 and 2023, but did not make it past the first stage. In 2021 he reached the last 32 at a Challenge Tour tournament once.
Cameron Menzies v Matt Campbell
Cameron Menzies has come a long way in the last three quarters of a year. He was in no less than three Players Championship finals, one of which he also managed to win. At the Grand Slam of Darts he also showed that he has made progress with a quarterfinal. This year, 'Cammy' may also prove on the Euro Tour that he has become a better player. Last year the Scot already did not do badly by reaching the final day on half of his Euro Tour appearances.
After more than a year's absence, Matt Campbell is making his return to the Euro Tour in Belgium. The Canadian played six more Euro Tour tournaments in 2023, but did not manage to qualify for a single event in 2024. At the Players Championship tournaments, Campbell has yet to win a single match. However, it is usually a player who shows his best game on stage.
Cameron Menzies is involved on Friday afternoon.
Gian van Veen v James Hurrell
Gian van Veen is one of the players to keep an eye on this season. 'GVV The Giant' is listed as one of the biggest talents at the PDC and with his play in recent weeks, it seems a matter of time before Van Veen has his first PDC title. Van Veen could have won that last year at the Hungarian Darts Trophy, but after a missed matchdart on the bullseye, he lost to compatriot Michael van Gerwen in the final.
Just like last year, James Hurrell managed to qualify for the Belgian Darts Open via the Tour Card qualifying tournament. It turned out to be his only Euro Tour entry then, so it is not to be hoped for 'Hillbilly' that this trend will continue in 2025.
Ritchie Edhouse v Owen Bates
He was one of the surprises of 2024. Ritchie Edhouse, few people will have thought he would win a major, but 'The Madhouse' stood with that trophy in his hands at the European Championship anyway. The Englishman had a particularly strong start to the Euro Tour season, reaching the final day five times in a row. Then his form ebbed away anyway, before he struck without mercy at the final tournament in Dortmund. Edhouse, however, started the new season poorly. In his previous seven 2025 matches, he did not throw above 90 average.
The first Tour Card year was quite a learning curve for 22-year-old Owen Bates. In 24 of the 30 Players Championship tournaments, he was eliminated in the first round, although placement for three Euro Tours was still quite nice. This year, Bates is already performing much better. In three of the four floor tournaments, he made it past the first round and twice even reached the last 32.
Ricardo Pietreczko v Matthew Dennant
Out of nowhere, Ricardo Pietreczko surprisingly won a Euro Tour tournament at the German Darts Championship in late 2023. Then in 2024 "Pikachu" also did well with a semifinal at the Belgian Darts Open and a final at the Flanders Darts Trophy. So Pietreczko is scoring well at the Euro Tour tournaments on Belgian soil. Especially when the finishes are running with the German, he can make things difficult for everyone.
Matthew Dennant already played his first Euro Tour tournament in 2013, but his participation in the Belgian Darts Open is only his eighth Euro Tour entry. Last year was the only year Dennant managed to qualify for two Euro Tours in the same year. On the Euro Tours, the Englishman has also never made it past the second round.
Wessel Nijman v Francois Schweyen
On the floor, Wessel Nijman has quickly emerged as a highly dangerous opponent for all the top players. The Dutchman has shown to have a high lower limit and sprinkles with 100+ averages. On stage, Nijman often plays well, but a recurring problem is that he often loses matches in which he plays very well. Because of his good ranking on the Pro Tour Order of Merit, Nijman can expect to play all Euro Tour tournaments this year. This gives Nijman plenty of opportunities to perfect his stage play even further and then the results will have to fall his way at some point.
Francois Schweyen managed to qualify for the event in Wieze via the Host Nation Qualifier. Not for the first time, as he was also there in 2022 and 2023, while the Belgian also competed at the Flanders Darts Trophy in Antwerp in 2024. Schweyen also showed well last year by making it to the semifinals at the WDF World Championship at Lakeside.
Daryl Gurney v Thibault Tricole
It was pretty solid what Daryl Gurney showed at the Euro Tour tournaments last season. He rarely lost his first match and thus regularly gained a lot of pounds for the various rankings. One highlight was a semi-final place at the German Darts Championship, while 'Superchin' also reached the quarter-finals at the Hungarian Darts Trophy and Swiss Darts Trophy. This season, the two-time major winner has yet to loosen up a bit. Of the 11 matches he has played, Gurney has lost six.
It took a while to see how Thibault Tricole would do in his first Tour Card year, but we can now conclude that the Frenchman has done more than excellently. 'The French Touch' qualified for the World Darts Championship via the Pro Tour and performed quite decently at the floor tournaments. The only criticism was that he had only qualified for one Euro Tour. Tricole has already surpassed that number in 2025, because after this Belgian Darts Open, he may also compete in the International Darts Open in April.
Dirk van Duijvenbode v Darius Labanauskas
After a long period of injury to his shoulder, Dirk van Duijvenbode is getting back on his feet. At times we see the scoring power with which he frightened his opponents returning. At the moment, Van Duijvenbode is still too inconsistent to compete for the titles on the Pro Tours, but if the Dutchman can continue this trend, it won't take long.
After the 2023 season, Darius Labanauskas lost his Tour Card, but that does not mean that 'Lucky D' has completely disappeared from the PDC circuit. Through the Nordic & Baltic Tour, the darter from Lithuania still manages to compete here and there. For example, Labanauskas was at the last World Championship, and he qualified for the Belgian Darts Open via the Nordic & Baltic Qualifier.
TV Guide
The tournament will be broadcast by PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the Belgian Darts Open consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12 p.m., while the evening sessions start at 6 p.m.
The first round will take place on Friday, where the 16 Pro Tour players will face 16 players who emerged from the various qualifying tournaments. The winners of these matches will face a player from the top-16 of the world rankings in the second round on Saturday. The third round will be played on Sunday afternoon, before the quarterfinals, semifinals and final are completed on Sunday evening.
Distribution of prize money
All participants starting from the first round are guaranteed £1250 in prize money, while the top-16 enter from the second round and receive £2,500 anyway. This amount eventually rises to the grand prize of £30,000 for the winner.
An important detail is that players who are automatically seeded via the Order of Merit and lose their first match will not be awarded prize money on the various rankings. This does apply to qualifiers who are later designated as seeded by the withdrawal of others.
