These players also faced each other in the group stage. Then the win went 5-3 to Stowe Buntz, who managed to qualify for the knockout phase of the Grand Slam of Darts after just two games. The American had already defeated two-time world champion Peter Wright. Despite a defeat against Dave Chisnall in the third group match, Buntz became group winner of the so-called 'group of death'. It didn't stop there, as "Buntzy" then also outsmarted Andrew Gilding to qualify for his first major-quarterfinal.

In that respect, opponent Bunting has a lot more experience. For "The Bullet" this will be his fourteenth quarterfinal on a major with the PDC. He beat Wright and Chisnall to reach the group stage. Bunting has been on top form for months but that has not resulted in any major upsets. The draw at least offers perspective for Bunting to progress a lot further in Wolverhampton.

Heta was one arrow away from elimination in the group stage, but Beau Greaves did not use her chance to knock 'The Heat' out of the tournament. Heta did next with Michael van Gerwen. The Australian won 10-7 over the three-time Grand Slam winner.

Cross has already had a strong tournament. He recorded wins over Martijn Kleermaker and Fallon Sherrock, and missed three chances to give Van Gerwen a beating in the group stage. Nevertheless, 'Voltage' advanced to the last sixteen as number two. In that round he faced Nathan Aspinall and after a convincing match, 'The Asp' was brought to his knees 10-8. Cross can boast of a good record against Heta. In 2019, the former world champion lost their first meeting between them, but the four subsequent confrontations were all won by Cross.
