Eight men are still in the race for overall victory at the Flanders Darts Trophy in Antwerp. Sunday night is the denouement of this Euro Tour tournament with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final in succession.
In the first quarterfinals, Chris Dobey and Luke Woodhouse will battle for a spot in the last four. Dobey dealt with Kevin Doets (6-2) and Josh Rock (6-5), while Woodhouse won his first matches against Luc Bogaert (6-3), Gerwyn Price (6-5) and Gian van Veen (6-5). Against both Price and Van Veen, Woodhouse survived one matchdart.
Peter Wright will be in action in the second match of the evening. The winner of the German Darts Championship won at this tournament against Brendan Dolan (6-5), Martin Schindler (6-2) and Stephen Bunting (6-5), and is thus already unbeaten in nine matches. He meets Dave Chisnall, who was victorious against James Wade (6-2) and Gabriel Clemens (6-2).
Dirk van Duijvenbode dumped out Luke Littler earlier and also continues his tournament. He started with wins over Jonny Clayton (6-2) and Damon Heta (6-5), before eliminating Luke Littler (6-2) in the third round. He now faces Ricardo Pietreczko. The German eliminated Andrew Gilding (6-5) and Danny Noppert (6-1).
The final quarterfinals feature Luke Humphries and Ryan Searle. Humphries saved himself in the third round by winning 6-5 over Ryan Joyce with a fabulous 149 finish, having previously defeated Ritchie Edhouse (6-3). Ryan Searle made it to the last eight after victories over Joe Cullen (6-4) and Ross Smith (6-3).
The Flanders Darts Trophy will be broadcast on PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the Flanders Darts Trophy consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 13:00, while the evening sessions start at 19:00.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Order of Merit qualifiers and the winners from the various qualifying tournaments then make their appearance. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. Sunday will see the denouement of the tournament, starting with the third round in the afternoon session. Sunday evening will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
At this Euro Tour tournament, a total of £175,000 in prize money will be divided among the 48 participants. They will receive at least 1250 pounds in starting money. The top-16 seeded players who enter the Flanders Darts Trophy from the second round will receive 2,500 pounds anyway.
They do - like the 16 Order of Merit qualifiers starting in the first round - have to win their first match in order for the prize money to count toward the world rankings and the other rankings. The winner of the Flanders Darts Trophy eventually goes home with the top prize of 30,000 pounds.
