Alan Soutar has continued his dream PDC
World Darts Championship debut with victory over seventh seed, Jose de Sousa who is one of the biggest names to be sent packing so far.
Soutar completed a 4-3 win with a 136 checkout as a flourish to claim it as he came from 3-2 behind to dump out 'The Special One' and continue his dream Ally Pally run.
Soutar missed an astonishing 11 darts at double to claim set one and De Sousa took advantage despite an average of 73 with both not producing early doors.
The Scot was straight back though sweeping the second set before finishes of 76 and 100 saw him go 2-1 up as he looked to get away but the Special One delivered reeling off three legs in a row to restore parity at 2-2 in sets in a closely fought tie.
They both exchanged breaks to begin set five with De Sousa holding to go 2-1 up. Soutar left 52 on his own throw with De Sousa only able to pressure. It was more missed darts at double for Soutar but he wasnβt punished as De Sousa miscounted on an 88 and could only leave it on 32.
Soutar returned for the same target to make it 2-2 but De Sousa had the throw and made it 3-2 in sets.
The Scot had the throw to begin the sixth set and pinned double 16 to hold. Soutar missed double 16 for the same target to break off a 101 and De Sousa levelled up.
Soutar still controlled the set and pinned double eight to go one away from a 3-3 parity. The Portuguese ace slipped on a 112 checkout but Soutar missed a shot on 68 to break and De Sousa returned for 2-2.
Soutar looked to deliver under pressure but missed six darts for the set to give De Sousa a chance at 80 which he couldnβt take. Again we went on as Soutar pinned double eight and the tie was locked in at 3-3.
De Sousa began the deciding set by pinning double 20 for the lead. Soutar missed 161 on the bull for the hold and De Sousa went single 20, double 18 but missed double 20 for a 96 checkout break and Soutar held.
It was a poor leg for De Sousa and Soutar turned the match firmly on its head as he pinned double four for a 2-1 lead.
Soutar was pumped up as De Sousa continued to wilt and he pinned a 136 checkout to claim a superb win.
