While not a high quality affair,
Fallon Sherrock finally has her only second win on the World Series of Darts stage all year and her first in Australia after edging past Mal Cuming at the
New South Wales Darts Masters in Wollongong.
Sherrock averaged only 80 with 6/21 on the doubles which will have to be improved with a likely meeting against Gerwyn Price tomorrow afternoon who faces Koha Kokiri shortly.
Cuming missed double 20 for a 70 checkout to begin the tie but returned with Sherrock missing double eight for a 136 checkout. Only to chase round the board and Sherrock was given a reprieve only to miss three more herself.
Three darts at double five from Cuming were on the wire and Sherrock hit double two to finally hold. With Sherrock sat on 52 though to break, Cuming hit 107 to hold and make it 1-1.
Cuming missed four darts to break and Sherrock despite being way back was given a chance at 74 which she didn’t take and the former hit double one to break and go 2-1 up.
Double 20 was pinned by Cuming who held to go 3-1 up. Sherrock hit double 18 on an 81 checkout to hold and go 3-2 down.
Sherrock missed 85 on the bull for a break but returned with Cuming missed two darts from 68 to break back with a 45 checkout. She pinned double 16 to consolidate and lead for the first time at 4-3.
Sherrock missed more break opportunities and Cuming cleaned up on double eight finally to make it 4-4. Sherrock hit double two though to hold and make it 5-4.
Cuming hit 76 to leave double 18 with Sherrock well back and a decider was forced. He began with a 180 after a poor start from Sherrock and was first to a finish but spurned his lines off 161 and Sherrock left 36 from 112 with a 125 setup and pinned it first time.
While
Jonny Clayton has also moved through with 'The Ferret' who himself hasn't been imperious on the World Series by any means this year gaining revenge over Haupai Puha.
Puha eased past Clayton last week in Townsville but this time, it was the reverse with a 6-1 success and a 95 average for the Welshman.
Clayton missed the big number to begin the tie but with Puha way back, he took aim at double 16 to seal a hold. A 72 checkout saw Puha hit back to hold at 1-1. Clayton missed 92 to hold but Puha couldn’t get a shot at 100 and ‘The Ferret’ returned to hold once more on double two at 2-1.
He broke from there on double 20 to go 3-1 up. This was consolidated on double seven after missing 121 on double 14 initially.
Puha continued to miss darts at double and Clayton hit a last dart 50 checkout to make it 5-1. Double five was pinned by The Ferret to seal it.
