Reaching the semi-finals last year, Scott Williams has high billing to live up to during this year's PDC World Darts Championship and he nearly didn't live up to it but in showman style, he produced an epic win against Niko Springer 3-1.
The German is making his debut during this year's edition despite being well known for some time and he will also be a Tour Card holder from 2025. He showed signs of why on the big stage but Williams prevailed in the end. His good friend Rob Cross now awaits.

It was a nightmare start for Williams before he reeled off the three straight sets as it was an easy first opening salvo for Springer as he burst into the lead 1-0 and sent Williams into needing some of his best to return to the foray.
He did just that taking out 78 to close out the second set 3-1 to make it 1-1 and leave it on level terms once more. But the showmanship started to come out, Williams produced a trademark no-look 180 on his way to taking the third set as he hit the front albeit averaging five less than his opponent who was averaging 100 but was still losing.
It was not only a 100 average overall but 114 in the set as Williams punished missed darts at a double to lead. Springer eventually after Williams missed darts to break went 2-1 up in the next set hitting double 10.
But Williams held and pivotally broke for 3-2 in the end to claim the win hitting double 11. In the end though it was a thrilling contest from both which saw both average 98 and hit 16 180's between them.
But the Williams train starts again as he aims to repeat his heroics from last year. A lot more to come to from Springer no doubt when he makes his full PDC bow next year.
