Smith calls for darts to be included in Olympics: "You want to be a world champion, you want to be a gold medallist"

Darts is not an Olympic sport for now. But if it was up to brand-new PDC world champion Michael Smith, it won't be for too long.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, a Canadian journalist working predominantly in combat sports such as UFC who has got hooked on darts over the past few weeks, Smith believes that it is deserving of a spot.

“Hopefully, it can only get bigger and one day maybe the Olympics, which I think it should be in. It can only get bigger. It’s massive in Europe and hopefully we can grow it in the states.”

Smith added: “It should already be there. You want to be a world champion, you want to be a gold medallist, you want to compete in the Olympics.

“Darts should be there, it’s a skilful game. You’re not just sticking it in by hand, you’ve got to throw it in, there’s hand-eye coordination. It should be there.”
