Michael Smith before making his US Darts Masters appearance last night came into proceedings as one of the most in-form players on the PDC Tour as of late.
Sealing a ProTour double as well as a European Tour and Premier League night, he is riding on a crest of a wave.
"The last couple of weeks the form has been there and been playing well. Got lucky in a few tournaments but it's nice to be back winning," said Smith to Online Darts.
"Started off in Wigan doing the back-to-back there and managed to scrape the last one of the Premier League when everyone couldn't be bothered. Then Merv King had me in the Europeans but luckily I battled back and I'd like to say it was plain sailing but it wasn't."
For Smith, while some would see being away from family as being a real issue, 'Bully Boy' admits that it is swings and roundabouts and he'd rather be in New York than not.
"I'd rather be here missing the kids than missing being here and watching everyone play so swings and roundabouts. Dagmara and the kids get to come to Australia with me."
But it is family life that provides the real boost for Smith at the moment which has seen him achieve such brilliant form.
"I got back to number four in the world, made the World and UK Open final, everything feels in a good place and that stems back to my family life. Everything seems to be perfect and it's showing into my game now."
