The German Darts Championship takes place in Hildesheim this weekend. Niko Springer is one of the German participants in the second Euro Tour tournament of the season, after making a good impression at the International Darts Open at the end of February.
At that tournament he drew attention with great victories over Jermaine Wattimena (6-4) and Brendan Dolan (6-5). In the third round Springer then lost 6-2 to reigning world champion Peter Wright.
The Scot then had words of praise for Springer. "When I'm retired and on the couch watching darts, this young man will represent Germany," Wright said.
In the podcast of dartn.de, Springer looks back on this tournament. "That was a weekend I will not forget. Two weeks before the qualification for Riesa I already said to several people around me: 'I have a really good feeling and I have never had such a good feeling before. That was also the first time in ages that I could not sleep before a qualifying tournament because I was so positively excited. I thought that was quite remarkable."
So Springer then enjoyed his participation in the International Darts Open very much. "It is a dream come true to play on such a big stage. That it worked out so well against Wattimena and that I could reward myself with such a victory, that beats everything."
