After the fifth round of Premier League Darts play in Brighton, there are notable shifts in the standings. The evening featured two nine-darters, while Luke Littler managed to take a weekly title for the second time this season.
The evening in Brighton began with some attractive quarterfinals. Michael van Gerwen beat Gerwyn Price 6-3, while Luke Littler narrowly won 6-5 over Chris Dobey. Rob Cross provided a surprise by eliminating frontrunner Luke Humphries, despite a nine darter from the world number one. Nathan Aspinall completed the semifinals by winning convincingly 6-2 over Stephen Bunting.
In the semifinals, Littler was supreme against Van Gerwen. The Dutchman had little to contribute against the scoring power of the young Englishman, who easily reached the final with an average of 106.11. There he met Nathan Aspinall, who won 6-5 against Rob Cross in a thriller. In that match it was Cross who threw a nine darter, but like Humphries he too drew the short end earlier.
The final was a convincing victory for Littler. Averaging over 100 points per turn, he outlasted Aspinall and took the win 6-3. Thanks to this victory, Littler collected five more points and strengthened his second place in the standings.
With thirteen points, Littler is only two points behind leader Humphries, who, like "The Nuke," has two weekly titles to his name. Behind the top two already follows a sizable gap to Michael van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall, who are both on eight points. Price is the number five with seven points, while Cross racked up important points and is sixth with six points. Behind them are Dobey (3 points) and Bunting (0 points).
