Cor Dekker was unable to pull off a shock against Stephen Bunting at the Hungarian Darts Trophy on Saturday afternoon. Despite throwing a nine darter, the victory went 6-2 to 'The Bullet'.
Soon it appeared there was no stunt in it against the reigning Masters champion. Dekker missed four chances to lead 2-1, after which Bunting took the lead with a 62 finish. The Englishman then ran out to a 5-1 lead.
Dekker then started the seventh leg with two 180 scores and masterfully ended the leg with a 141 finish via treble 20, treble 15 and double 18. Bunting ended the match one leg later.
Daryl Gurney advanced to the last sixteen of this tournament at the expense of Florian Hempel. Hempel won 6-5 over Callan Rydz on Friday, but went down just after a deciding leg. After the first five legs were easily won by the player who had started the leg, Gurney had two break chances in the sixth leg "Superchin' couldn't hit the double 12, however, after which Hempel countered with a 22-darter to make it 3-3.
In the seventh leg, Hempel himself left a break opportunity unused. Gurney then made it 4-3 with a 16-darter. In leg eight Hempel failed to keep his own leg after four missed doubles, after which Gurney doubled the lead via double 10. However, Hempel then knuckled his way back to 5-5. Gurney was allowed to start the final leg, but was not out in five visits. Hempel could not take advantage from 146, and then saw the victory go to the Northern Irishman with a 16-darter.
Scott Williams also secured a spot in the last sixteen. Williams, who was still in the semifinals of the World Darts Championship in December, recorded a handsome 6-4 victory over Chris Dobey.
