The first semi-finalist is confirmed at the 2024
Masters as
Stephen Bunting will take his place in Sunday's evening session with a shot at the title after easing past
Peter Wright in Milton Keynes.
The ever popular fan favourite Bunting produced a superb 10-2 win over Wright sweeping aside the 2020 champion and Premier League star. 'Snakebite' called it a Mickey Mouse tournament yesterday and he won't be winning it this year, but Bunting might after producing a 100 average, three 180's and three blockbuster ton plus checkouts.
Part of it though was Bunting's brilliance and it was partly Wright's poor performance as the former was averaging nearly 107 in the early going to steam into a 4-1 lead taking out 81 in the process. But Wright was only averaging 74 and his misery continued from there.
Bunting broke for 5-1 and then smashed in a 104 checkout to consolidate and go further clear at 6-1. It was a ton topping portion of the tie as he produced an exceptional 122 checkout to make it 7-1 and going into the final interval of the match, he hit 121 using bull, treble 13 and double 16. Truly sublime from the Bullet who sat at 8-2 up.
On return, he went one away from the win on double 16 and needed one more leg to book his spot. He hit a 134 to head towards a finish and despite slipping into the one to leave a bogey number, Wright couldn't get to one either. He hit 54 last dart to leave 92 after it was looking like a trebleless visit and Wright could only muster a 60. Bunting left 32 as he couldn't finish from 92 and Wright couldn't pin 123 either. The St Helens ace last dart pinned double 16 for a hammering win.
