Disillusioned, Dirk van Duijvenbode walked off the stage after losing 3-1 in sets to Madars Razma in the second round of the World Darts Championship. So for the second consecutive year, the tournament ends before Christmas for 'Aubergenius'.

In the tournaments leading up to the World Darts Championship, Van Duijvenbode had shown good form with a quarterfinal at the European Darts Championship and even a semifinal at the Players Championship Finals. However, in the week leading up to his match, he was felled by severe flu. "When you get sick then, it doesn't matter anymore," he said for Viaplay's camera. "You do everything you can, but I was sick all week."

Nevertheless, the start was hopeful for Van Duijvenbode. He won the first set 3-0 and then led 2-0 in the second set. After that, however, the Dutchman lost six legs in a row. "Suddenly I just lost it," Van Duijvenbode lamented with tears in his eyes. "My energy was so low that I decided to pump full throttle in the beginning. 3-0, 3-1, I was hoping for, because my energy was not enough for five sets."

"I can't even throw an 18-darter anymore. I can only blame myself for this,'" continued Van Duijvenbode, who did not want to use his fitness as an excuse. "You do this yourself. Serves you right. If you act a little bit normal then you win easy."
