Brian Raman and Niko Springer are the first victors on the
European Tour this season after seeing off David Schlichting and Jermaine Wattimena respectively at the
International Darts Open in Riesa.
Raman faced off against Schlichting who got through the Host Nation Qualifier yesterday and it was a game which saw the duo exchange breaks of throw throughout with the latter giving it large on stage when he got his first leg on the board.
But that was as good as it got as Raman pulled away and his opponent was unable to hold throw with the Belgian showing quality at times.
While for Springer, he is also making his European Tour debut and dumped out Wattimena in a stunning display with a 6-4 win as he smashed in five 180’s in seeing off the Dutchman with his average at times sitting at around 107. He will now face Brendan Dolan tomorrow.
Wattimena chipped in with a maximum in the opening leg but Springer on debut hit two 180’s in two legs hitting an 82 checkout for a 2-0 lead and a 15-dart break.
He continued to play brilliantly with another maximum before pinning double 20 for a 3-0 lead. His average was sat at 107 as he was leaving Wattimena no chance.
But he held throw with a 55 checkout to keep himself two legs behind. Back-to-back 180’s saw Springer hold again on double eight.
He missed the chance to break and Wattimena held to stay in the match at 4-2 behind. He smashed in a 170 checkout though with Springer waiting to hold.
He pinned double four to level at 4-4. Springer got back on track on double four to go one away. He pressured the 72 and Wattimena wasn’t up to it as the German pinned double 18 to move through.
