Raymond Van Barneveld will make his return to the tour next year after only a year in retirement but for
Phil Taylor, a familiar rival, he believes the doyen of Dutch darts will struggle.
Speaking to The Darts Show podcast, Taylor said that having to start from scratch and also his age are issues.
“I think he's going to find it tough Barney - even just to get his card he's going to find it tough," said Taylor on The Darts Show podcast.
"The worst part for Raymond is he's got no ranking anymore, so he's got to start from the very beginning again.
"He's got what it takes, but I think age has caught up on him a little bit and health wise. He is going to struggle, especially with these youngsters.
"They're skipping round at 8:30am in the morning whereas you're shattered! It's hard when you're getting older, trust me."
