It was the Late Late Show in Leicester as
Gerwyn Price and
Nathan Aspinall booking their spots in the Last 16 at the
World Grand Prix albeit past midnight for the latter.
Price again like at the World Matchplay was facing Martin Schindler and it was a dominant success for 'The Iceman' as he sealed a 2-0 sets win dropping only one leg en route.
Price was superb to begin the tie hitting double 20 to follow a break. Schindler missed five darts for a break but Price couldn’t seal the set only to do so in the requisite leg on double 12.
A 101 checkout saw Price go 2-0 up and one away from victory. Price busted 60 to win it but Schindler missed two darts to stay in it and Price returned for double 20.
While in a tie of the night for many despite the late start, it was Aspinall that prevailed over fourth seed Michael Smith to complete the opening round.
It could have been straight sets for Aspinall who sealed the opening set 3-1 after Smith faltered on the outer ring to complete legs before then missing three match darts allowing 'Bully Boy' to snatch a lifeline at 1-1.
Albeit Smith's missed darts at double crept in again during the decider which Aspinall swept 3-0 on double 16 after Smith missed darts to keep himself in the tie.
