"There'll be a new name on that trophy" - John McDonald expecting World Grand Prix upsets

On Monday, the World Grand Prix gets underway in Leicester. Master of ceremonies John McDonald, a regular at PDC tournaments for many years, is eagerly looking forward to this major.

McDonald still thinks it's a great tournament after all these years. "We certainly don't know who is going to win," McDonald told Boyle Sports. "It's the greatest leveller in sport. If you don't get away straight away you're going to be trailing and it turns your game completely around from being an in control player to an out of control player."

The 63-year-old Englishman dare not predict who will win the tournament. "The standard of darts is so high now that you have to be a good player to compete. That means for me, there's a new name on that trophy."

"I just can't say who, but there'll be a new name on it, because that's the way this business is going. Everybody is working so hard to just stay in amongst the field."
